Contributions to the relief fund for the victims of
terrorist attacks
Letter from LA County Federation of
Labor
9-12-01
Los Angeles trade unionists were stunned and angered
by yesterday's acts of terrorism against American
citizens. Our hearts and prayers go out to the thousands
of families who have been devastated by these actions.
Many union members lost their lives performing their duties in this time of national crisis.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Los Angeles County
Federation of Labor is in complete support of the National
AFL-CIO's Emergency Response to assist in the immediate
aide to those directly affected by this deplorable act of
cowardice.
The Federation is prepared to offer help and support
in coordination with other local and national human
services organizations. The fund will help provide relief
services, including emergency food, blood, clothing,
counseling and supplies to victims of the terrorist acts.
We ask that local union members assist not only by
providing finances, but also donating blood and
volunteering to answer phones for the American Red
Cross here in Los Angeles. To schedule a time to
donate blood call 1-800-GIVE LIFE. To help answer the
overwhelming number of phone calls to the Red Cross,
contact American Red Cross Labor Liason Cheryl Dowden at
213-739-4510.
To donate to the Emergency Response Fund, please make
checks payable to Union Community Fund designated for
the September 11th Relief Fund. Checks should be
mailed to Union Community Fund, 815 16th Street NW,
Washington D.C. 20006. Union members can also go to the
UCF web page and make donations on line at www.unioncommunityfund.org. All contributions are tax
deductible as allowed by law and will go to non-profit
organizations engaged in relief efforts.
For further information you may contact Armando Olivas,
Director AFL-CIO Community Services at 213-427-9044. Your
help in this cause will not only be appreciated by those
victims of this horrific tragedy, but also the great
people of this great nation. Thank you for your
consideration.
In unity,
Miguel Contreras
