Bankruptcy judge rules mostly in retirees’ favor in American Airlines benefit case

By Terry Maxon   U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane on Friday denied part of American Airlines’ request for summary judgment on the issue of retiree health benefits and approved part of the request. However, it looks like pretty much a win for most of the tens of thousands retirees who would have faced paying their own insurance premiums.

Brothers and Sisters, Judge Lane has made his decision on retiree medical today. Please see the attached ruling by Judge Lane denying the company’s motion for summary judgment on their right to terminate the retiree medical plan. This means it will go to trial and be argued by the parties involved. The company prefunding match will still be preserved for future distribution.
